In 2007, the first Porchfest was held in Ithica, NY. The idea was simple: for one afternoon, porches become stages, and the neighborhood becomes a musical destination. Over the last decade, more than 60 of these festivals have popped up all over the country.
Porchfest is a grassroots event. Each porch is its own venue managed by the homeowners. Each musical act has agreed to volunteer their time and talent. Dozens of volunteers from the community are also helping to make this event possible.
Porchfest is put on by the community for the community. It is a partnership of neighbors, community members and artists. There is no big cheese calling all the shots. No one is paid to do this. Each venue is managed by the homeowner, the final decision maker at their site.
Porchfest is put on by the North Heights Neighborhood, which runs roughly from 1st street to F street, and between Main and Jackson. Most Porchfest events will take place in a smaller area within the neighborhood. Check back 2 weeks before the event for a detailed map and schedule, including all music venues, vendors, parking, and restrooms.
Porchfest is a free event for everyone. Please support your favorite musicians with tips and by purchasing their merchandise.
